Volunteer Opportunities

Sign up to Be a Democracy Defender

Voters across Texas have already started voting by mail and early voting begins on October 24. Texas Democrats need your help to make sure they have the information they need and have someone ready to be an advocate for them. Sign up to volunteer to support voters and make sure nothing gets between an eligible voter and their ballot!

Poll Watchers

Poll watchers are voters’ advocates at the polling place. They are the last line of defense for a voter to ensure they’re able to vote. They observe the check-in and voting process in person at an assigned polling place in their county.

Great poll watchers are observant and good problem solvers. You must also be a registered voter in the state of Texas to serve as a poll watcher. You can only serve in the county you’re registered to vote in, so when you sign up please provide the zip code for the address at which you’re registered to vote.

Sign up for the days and times you can serve during early voting and on Election Day. In your confirmation email, you’ll receive links to two required online, on-demand trainings – one training from the Secretary of State and one from the Texas Democratic Party (1.0 hours of MCLE credit, if you are an attorney, which you don’t need to be). Additionally, you will have an experienced contact person just a phone call or text away to provide support while you’re volunteering.

Hotline Volunteers

Answer voters’ phone calls from voters with questions ranging from “how do I register to vote?” to “I’m at the polling place and they’re saying I can’t vote” to “I need help correcting a problem with my mail ballot.” Volunteers offer real-time support & problem-solving for voters. Hotline volunteers work remotely – you’ll answer these calls from your own computer.

Sign up for a shift on our Voter Assistance Hotline. In your confirmation email, you’ll receive a link to take a required online, on-demand training ahead of your first shift. Additionally, you will have an experienced contact person available to provide support while you’re volunteering.

Make Calls to Recruit & Confirm Volunteers

Call other voter protection volunteers to get them plugged into the work or to remind them about trainings and shifts. Call Team volunteers work remotely from their own phone and computer.

Sign up for a phone bank. No experience or training needed. We’ll provide you everything you need when you log onto the Zoom to get started.
