Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)

Senator Barack Obama

Senator Barack Obama

Remembering the values of empathy and service that his mother taught him, Barack became a community organizer with a church-based group in poor neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side. In 2004, he became the third African American since Reconstruction to be elected to the U.S. Senate. Whether it's the poverty exposed by Katrina or the role of faith in our politics, Barack Obama continues to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century. But above all, he is most proud and grateful for his wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6.

Why Texas Democrats are Supporting Senator Obama

"In addition to his intelligence (magna cum laude from Harvard Law), his work as a community organizer enables him to see policy with a human face. Above all, I trust him to make decisions not for what political stripes he may earn, but for what is best for America and its people...Having been inspired by the likes of the Kennedys and Dr. King, I have not been this excited about a U.S. leader since that time."

Molly in Chatfield

"Senator Obama has what it takes to unite this country and improve our relations with other countries in the world. He also saw from the start that the Iraq War would be a failure and spoke out against it."

LaTosha in Dallas

"Senator Obama has been consistently against going to war against Iraq. His priorities are similar to mine--ending the costly, unnecessary and immoral war in Iraq, health care, the economy, and bolstering the middle class which has been bled dry during the Bush reign. Senator Obama is articulate, intelligent, of good character, and is young and energetic--someone who has the capacity to inspire us to once again become a great country."

Elizabeth in Stephenville

"Senator Obama has the most cohesive and progressive plan to move our country forward - past all the blunders and setbacks of the current administration. I whole-heartedly believe that Barack Obama will not only be our next president, but in that post will create a thoughtful and responsible America that promotes diplomacy abroad, brotherhood at home, and a united America that sees no color, whether it be black or white, red or blue."
