The Texas Democratic Party’s Campaign Academy is a program designed to train talented campaign staffers and help with placement on campaigns.
In 2009-2010, 30 students graduated from the Academy. Academy graduates came from many different regions of Texas including border counties, rural counties, and major urban counties. Before graduating, each participant attended three days of intense training that included fundraising, communications, field and management. All students received comprehensive material and participated in simulation exercises in fundraising, press writing, voter contact and message development. Courses were taught by experienced political professionals, providing not only the opportunity for students to learn, but also to network.
Graduates then applied their training on different competitive campaigns ranging from local to statewide races. A number of graduates ultimately went on to hold leadership positions within their campaigns.
