Texas Democratic Party: Moving Texas Forward

Below is a statement from Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie in recognition of Independence Day, July 4th, 2009:

“As Texans celebrate America’s independence this weekend, it is important that we reflect on the strength and spirit of our people that have made this country strong. For 233 years, America has shone as a beacon of independence, hope and opportunity for people around the world. The foundation of our country is the freedom of the American people who live the Declaration of Independence every day, and when we pull together as a nation to accomplish what we cannot do alone, we shape the enduring spirit of our democracy.

“On July 4th, we honor the people who make America great. We are a nation of soldiers fighting to preserve our freedom, teachers educating the leaders and workers of tomorrow, nurses who comfort the ailing, factory workers toiling to keep our industry strong and millions of everyday people whose extraordinary contributions make their families, their communities and our nation strong.

“For generations, Americans have turned great challenges into opportunities for progress. On this Independence Day, we put our differences aside and celebrate the strength of spirit that remains the driving force that will keep the light of opportunity alive for generations of Americans to come.”
