Texas Democratic Party: Moving Texas Forward

Kay Bailey Hutchison is not a friend to Texas women. In fact, she has a track record of voting against measures that further the social and economic advancement of women. When the votes are taken, the real KBH is just another Republican politician – no different than Rick Perry – who is hostile to the interests of Texas women.

By voting against equal pay, tax relief for working moms, and small businesswomen, KBH has shown she is so out-of-touch she doesn’t understand the concerns of everyday Texas women.

• Generations of women have fought for equal pay for doing the same work as a man – and KBH turned her nose up at all these women when she voted against a bill requiring equal pay for equal work for women. (Source: Project Vote Smart)  The Hutchison family brings in as much as $6.7 million every year – a fortune that has apparently made KBH forget all about the millions of other working women in Texas who need to make every dollar count for their families. • Any mother knows that every mom is a working mom – but when KBH voted against a family tax relief amendment in 1997, she turned her back on moms working both inside and outside the home.  The amendment would have created a refundable child tax credit, provided tax cuts for family savings and created tax incentives for higher education and training. • Texas women who run their own businesses – working hard and helping the economy by providing jobs – got no help from KBH, when she voted to end funding to help women and minority-owned businesses compete for federal transportation funding. (Source: On the Issues)

Over the course of our “Who is the Real KBH?” countdown, we’ve discussed how the real Senator Hutchison bears no resemblance to the “moderate” image she’s tried to sell Texas voters. On issue after issue, KBH’s record proves she is just another Republican career politician with nothing to offer but more of the failure Texans have endured under one-party Republican rule.

Who is the Real KBH?  She’s just more of the same.
