PERRY RAISES MONEY WITH VIRGINIA GOVERNOR WHO OPPOSES EQUAL PAY
August 16th, 2010
(Austin, TX) – Today, Rick Perry proves again he’s in it for himself rather than for our state, choosing to raise money for his campaign at a fundraiser hosted by Virginia Republican Governor Bob McDonnell.
McDonnell made headlines earlier this year when he declared April “Confederate History Month,” left “anti-slavery language” out of the proclamation and said the effort was intended to “promote tourism” for the state. Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie issued the following statement about Gov. Rick Perry’s decision to attend the Virginia fundraiser:
“Rick Perry needs to realize this isn’t ‘Mad Men’ – the times have changed, and it’s unacceptable to fundraise with someone who opposes equal pay for women.”
“Perry’s decision to fundraise with someone like Bob McDonnell speaks volumes about his own character, and his tacit approval of McDonnell’s extreme positions is an insult to our state and our country.”
“Rick Perry should cancel his fundraiser with McDonnell and return to Texas to focus on the $18 billion budget deficit he created.”
