Lubbock Dem Bravely Catches Sign Vandals on Tape
October 26th, 2012

Just mere hours after Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa addressed Democratic supporters at a local middle school for an Early Vote Rally this week, a Lubbock County Democratic volunteer was monitoring the area when he found four men vandalizing small Democratic signs and the large “Lubbock Supports Obama 2012″ signs. The volunteer was in the process of calling 911 when the men jumped into their truck and drove to to where the volunteer was located. They attempted to take the camera and then proceeded to assault the volunteer. The brave volunteer held his ground and kept the camera. The four men fled while yelling racist remarks towards the volunteer.
There has been an increasing problem recently in Lubbock with Obama signs. Racial slurs and graffiti along with blatant vandalism has been occurring in neighborhoods. Our Chairman was at ground zero this week to offer support and cheer on Lubbock County Democrats.
This assault happened just days after Lubbock Republican Party County Chair Carl Tepper said, “I have a weird suspicion that the Democrats might have damaged their own signs. It’s an outlandish story.”
This incident takes place mere months since Lubbock County Judge Head warned that the nation could descend into civil war if President Barack Obama is re-elected. Lubbock Republican Party County Chair Carl Tepper accused the Democrats of “opportunism” and said he had called Head and left him a message offering “moral support.”
This spew of ignorance and hatred needs to stop. The Republican Party will not address this hatred. They deny it’s existence. The Texas Democratic Party will continue to fight against these hate crimes and stand with our local communities across this state.
