The State of Embarrassment
February 13th, 2013
You know it had to be a Texas Republican who invited Ted Nugent to last night’s State of the Union. Last year Nugent publicly declared that he’d be “dead or in jail,” by the time President Obama got reelected, and the Secret Service found his threat concerning enough to launch an investigation.
Texas Republican Representative Steve Stockman, however, found Nugent fit to be his guest at the State of the Union. While the nation is still in shock and mourning over losses caused by gun violence, Stockman invited to the speech someone who has threatened the President’s life!
Just when you thought that Texas Republicans couldn’t get anymore embarrassing, Steve Stockman proved you wrong. That is what Republican “values” look like these days.
Here’s the thing, Texas Republicans know that they have nothing to stand on. They support policies that hurt the majority of Texans. And their only hope is to further cater to radical Tea Party standards of crazy. And that’s just what Rep. Stockman did last night.
Stockman knows that he can’t get media attention for leading on solutions that will make your life better. He has done nothing useful to ensure that your children have access to quality education, or that your aging parents have the health care they deserve. His only hope is to do something crazy in an attempt to make the Tea Party proud.
This is not what Texas is about. We’re not proud of Stockman; we’re embarrassed. And we don’t need to be represented by such crazy radicals anymore.
