The Twelve Days of Cornyn: Eleven Forgotten Military Bases

Twelve Days of Cornyn
Cornyn Grinch

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas John Cornyn Gave to Me...

Eleven Forgotten Military Bases

For five years now, Texas troops have woken up on Christmas morn to find their stockings empty because Senator John Cornyn has completely failed to provide them with the resources they desperately need.  Last year, under a Republican-controlled Congress, John Cornyn stood by and watched as a $3.1 billion shortfall threatened Fort Sam Houston and other important Texas military projects in the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission's recommendations.  This year, with a Democratic Majority in Congress, key Texas Democrats picked up the slack and restored Texas' BRAC funding, while Cornyn tried to take credit for the work of other Texas leaders with his signature photo ops and staged media events.

According to one press release, "Sen. Cornyn is committed to fighting to restore $3.1 billion in BRAC funding... He has pledged to ensure the funding will get approved in an upcoming supplemental appropriations funding bill." [Cornyn Press Release, 2/20/07]  But in typical Cornyn-like fashion, he turned around a month later and voted AGAINST the spending bill that included $3.1 billion to implement the BRAC recommendations. [Roll Call vote #126, 3/29/07]  With all John Cornyn's Christmas lies, he deserves nothing but a lump of coal in his stocking this year.
