From the Texas Democratic Party Platform
We believe that the peace and prosperity of our nation is assured by the maintenance of a powerful and capable military. We believe the single most important element in our military is the individual soldier, and that it is absolutely critical that we keep faith with those who defend us. In our pursuit of national security, Texas Democrats support:
- A well equipped military with sufficient resources to maintain and enhance our defense capacities;
- Safeguards to prevent the imposition of national security policies that would violate or conflict with the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution; and
- Increasing our national security through the competent use of nonviolent intervention, mediation, and conflict resolution at home and abroad and to ensure that war is always a last resort.
