 INTERNSHIPS

Texas Democratic Party internships are an outstanding way to learn about Democratic politics and gain work experience in an office setting.

The Party is always looking for qualified interns to assist our headquarters staff.  While these positions are unpaid, the Party will gladly work with your institution to help you get academic credit for the internship, if permitted.

Interns will be based at our Austin headquarters and must be able to provide their own transportation. For more information or to apply for an internship, please contact Glen Maxey.

The Texas Democratic Party welcomes people to join us in our internship program. We have opportunities for you to work with us in a myriad of activities.   Whether you can only work on sporadic projects or wish to spend the summer or a semester in a full time position, we will assist in making it happen!

What does the TDP  internship program require in time or scheduling commitment?

Politics and campaigns have many facets and so does the TDP.   We will craft your internship to fit your needs and hours.     We want you to tell us what you desire in your experience and what your level of commitment of time and effort can be.   Whatever that is, we will strive to work with you.     Part time interns perform valuable services for us.  Full time interns who work alongside our regular staff are also a huge assist for the TDP.

Are there any paid internships available?

Not currently.   We only offer short term internships for the learning opportunities and the experience.    We hope our interns are committed to the bigger goal of being part of the effort to Turn Texas Blue.    If you are looking for a paid position, we encourage you to submit your resume, but clearly state that fact.   Please understand that paid positions when they become available will mostly be field positions and permanent employees.

What projects are available?

We have departments who work on office management, fundraising and finances, communications, and field operations (campaign activities).   Each department can use dedicated interns to assist them on day-to-day operations and on short term and long-term projects.

Are all internships in Austin?

Most of what we traditionally call “internships” would be at our state Headquarters in Austin.  As we move into the 2014 campaign season we might have internships in the field.    We do have projects that an intern can do remotely, but at this point they are mostly data driven (such as list clean up and voter registration number look up, etc.).  If you wish to work on projects like these, please email Glen Maxey.

How do I apply?

-  Simply send a email or cover letter along with a resume listing your current contact information.    Send them to Glen Maxey at:   gmaxey@txdemocrats.org

-  Please give a definitive timeframe you are seeking to do your service.

-  If you know they type of activities your wish to focus upon, describe them.  If you are open to assist in any department, let us know that.

When will I know if I am accepted?

If you apply with a definitive time frame and commitment, we will reply immediately.
