2008 Democratic National Convention
Every four years, Texas Democrats send one of the largest and most diverse delegations to the Democratic National Convention, and this year 228 outstanding Texas Democrats will represent the Lone Star State in Denver and will participate in the formal nomination of the 2008 Democratic nominee for President of the United States. If you would like to be a member of the Texas Delegation, the information below will help you understand the delegate selection process, thereby increasing your chances of being elected as a National Delegate.
To begin, please review our brochure entitled "How to Be a Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention." The brochure provides a helpful overview of the requirements and process involved in becoming a delegate, and can be viewed by clicking here.
For more detailed information on the delegate selection process, you can read the TDP's 2008 Delegate Selection Plan, which has been approved by the Democratic National Committee as the governing document for the Delegate Selection process. You may also wish to read Article IV of the Texas Democratic Party Rules, which governs Party conventions.
The best way to learn about becoming a delegate or alternate is to attend one of the TDP's National Delegate Selection Trainings. Senate Districts throughout Texas will offer such trainings during the fall and winter, with at least one training held in every State Senate district in Texas. You can find a training near you at our Delegate Selection Training page. By attending these trainings you will be able to learn about the process, ask questions, and meet other Democrats interested in going to the convention. If you can't make a training, you can also download the training presentation.
