Austin, TX — Indicted Republican Ken Paxton is already in a single-digit race for Attorney General. A poll memo released by Texas Democrat Justin Nelson shows after voters learn about both candidates, Democrat Justin Nelson takes the lead over Republican Ken Paxton, 47-46.
Paxton starts the race in an incredibly weak position, up only 46-40.
When likely Texas voters are informed about Paxton’s corrupt behavior and felony indictment, 62% of them say it raises serious doubts about him.
Texas Democratic Party Deputy Executive Director Manny Garcia issued the following statement:
“It is becoming clear that Texans are tired of Ken Paxton’s lawlessness. Paxton could be facing 99 years in jail for felony fraud and that is no way to start a statewide campaign for reelection, much less serve the people of Texas in public office as their top lawyer.
“The race is set and Texas Democrat Justin Nelson has a path to victory. We’re already in a single-digit race and it’ll take hard work, aggressive organizing, and clear values that speak to the lives of everyday Texans to get over the top.”
