Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Texas Democrats are more competitive than ever before – we’re young, increasingly diverse, and in the fastest growing state in the nation. A wave is coming in 2018, while Republicans play fringe politics, Texas Democrats are fighting for great public schools, affordable healthcare, and an economy that brings back the middle class.

“Texans are ready for change and the numbers prove it. Donald Trump is tanking the Republican brand while progressive Texans, like Beto O’Rourke, are marching, organizing, and running for office.”

Additional Background:

“In Texas, according to Gallup, Trump’s approval rating is at just 39 percent, with 54 percent disapproving, a number that should put a scare into Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) as he faces down reelection.” [Talking Points Memo, January 30, 2018]
