Austin, TX – Today, President Trump announced on Twitter that he fired the Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson. Tillerson had one of the shortest tenures in modern history (approximately 40.5 Scaramuccis).
Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Tariq Thowfeek issued the following statement:
“Another day, another tweet, and another round of chaos for the Trump Administration. President Trump continues to prove that he is incapable of providing the steady leadership we deserve from our president.
“While Rex is on the outs with Putin, Trump is eagerly building a dating profile for his own Russian ‘Order of Friendship.’”
Tillerson’s time at State was notable for this its rocky relationship with the Trump White House.
Surprisingly, the “Order of Friendship” recipient drew Trump’s ire for not sufficiently placating Vladimir Putin, president of the Russian Federation.
The divide between Tillerson and the White House was on full display yesterday when it was reported that he seemed to depart from the Trump administration’s assessment of recent Russian activities, agreeing with the British Prime Minister Theresa May that Russian assassination attempts on U.K. soil are unacceptable.
