Austin, TX – According to University of Texas officials, Republican State Sen. Charles Schwertner did not fully cooperate with investigators looking into lewd text messages and a sexually explicit image to a university graduate student allegedly sent by the senator.
Schwertner “has access to information that could allow a more definitive conclusion to this matter, but (he) is unwilling to share that information and the University lacks authority to compel him to investigate more fully,” former U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton concluded. Despite previously denying any knowledge whatsoever of these actions, Schwertner now alleges that a third person sent the messages without his knowledge. He will not disclose this person’s name, their relationship to each other, or why this person had access to his messaging application.
Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Crystal K. Perkins issued the following statement:
“These are not the actions of an innocent man. Senator Charles Schwertner is a liar and clearly unfit to serve in elected office.
“Schwertner’s previous behavior and voting record already show us exactly who he is and how he feels about women. This is yet another disgusting chapter of his time in office.”
This is not the first time Schwertner has been in the news for his despicable behavior towards women, during the 2017 Texas Legislative session, Schwertner made national headlines after he broke a glass table trying to gavel a woman into silence.
