“The looming deadline has shed light on how Trump’s heavy-handed tactic of using family separation to discourage illegal immigration is a toxic mix of cruelty and incompetence…two out of three Americans abhor what Trump has done with these children.”(read more)

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“The Trump administration is grossly unprepared when it comes to the consequences of their cruel and inhumane family separation policy.

“Children should never be separated from their parents to begin with and they certainly don’t belong in jail. Trump’s continued tactic of using vulnerable immigrants as political bargaining chips is immoral. He and Republicans in Congress have made their values clear, and the damage they are doing to immigrant families is irreversible.

“Texas Democrats believe every single child should be reunited with his or her parent and are committed to fighting for a just, fair and humane immigration system.”
