Texas Democratic Party to Follow House Democrats in Adopting the ‘Rooney Rule’ to Diversify Staff

Austin, TX — As the Texas Democratic Party continues to gear up for the 2018 election cycle, the state party is set to adopt a hiring policy called the ‘Rooney Rule’ to help build a more diverse staff for democratic campaigns. The policy requires that job openings interview minority candidates, and encourages such candidates to be sought out and considered.

This follows in the footsteps of the recent plans by the Democratic caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives to implement the ‘Rooney Rule’ in filling its own staff positions. [Washington Post, June 14, 2017]
