Texas Democrats on the removal of the Confederate Plaque from the Texas Capitol

Austin, TX – The Texas State Preservation Board voted unanimously to remove a Confederate plaque in the State Capitol. [Alexandra Samuels, January 11, 2019]

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“It doesn’t even take six seconds, much less over a year to determine that a confederate plaque should be removed the Capitol. It’s shameful this plaque was allowed in our state capitol.

“We applaud State Representative Eric Johnson for leading the charge to have this treasonous plaque removed.

“While we celebrate the removal of this plaque, Texas Republicans continue to drag their feet on removing all white supremacist idolatry from our state capitol.”
