Texas Democrats on Trump’s visit to McAllen, Texas

Austin, TX – As opposition continues to grow against the Trump Shutdown, the Republican President is making a desperate attempt to manufacture a crisis on the border with a visit to the Rio Grande Valley.

A majority of Americans oppose the government shutdown and now Trump is losing support within his own party.

In addition, despite Trump’s Wall being highly unpopular in Texas, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz, and Lt Gov. Dan Patrick will stand as props with Trump in a show of solidarity.

Texas Democratic Party Chair and Rio Grande Valley resident Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Yet again, Trump Republicans are using our communities for a political stunt.

“Texans won’t sit idly by as Trump steals our land. Texans and border communities must have a say in decisions that affect us. They are loud and clear: no one wants this wall and no one wants Trump’s shutdown.

“Democrats have already moved to end Trump’s shutdown. The shutdown and this visit are an inexcusable move by a president who doesn’t give a damn about the lives of Texans and our communities.”
