Austin, TX — US intelligence officials confirmed this week that Texas is one of seven states compromised by Russian hackers, “in a variety of ways, with some breaches more serious than others, from entry into state websites to penetration of actual voter registration databases.” [NBC News, February 28, 2018]
So far, Texas Republican leadership has remained silent.
Five questions for Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, and Ted Cruz.
What is the extent of Russian interference in Texas?
Is this currently happening in our March primary?
What communications has Texas’ government had with the Trump administration?
What steps, if any at all, has the Governor’s office taken to ensure this won’t happen again?
What the hell are they doing while Russia messes with Texas?
Texas Democratic Party Primary Director Glen Maxey issued the following statement:
“The first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one. Texas Republicans need to acknowledge the fact that Russia interfered in our electoral process. Abbott and the Texas Republican leadership have no plan to stop this election meddling from happening again.
“Texans need answers. We need to identify every shred of evidence, educate the public, and fight to protect our democratic institutions. The fact is, we don’t sit on the sidelines after a conventional military attack. An attack on our democracy in cyberspace should be no different.
“Russians messed with Texas and Greg Abbott hasn’t done a damn thing about it.”
