Trump Targets Immigrant Parents of U.S. Citizens for Deportation; Revokes DAPA

Austin, TX --  Last night, the Trump Administration rescinded President Obama’s program to protect undocumented parents of lawful U.S. residents and citizens.

“The revocation came on the fifth anniversary of another effort that has protected hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation...The program to protect parents was announced by President Obama in November 2014 but was never fully launched. It was intended to keep the immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with a renewable work permit good for two years, but it was blocked by a federal judge in Texas...”[Associated Press, June 15, 2017]

Texas Democratic Party Deputy Executive Director Manny Garcia issued the following statement:

“In an act of despicable cruelty Trump Republicans are now targeting the parents of U.S. citizens for deportation. Once again, Trump’s actions will tear families apart while we should be supporting policies based on our American values to create jobs, keep families safe, and unlock opportunity for all.

“The facts are clear: Trump’s policies are hurting working families who are just trying to get ahead. If you’re not already in his crosshairs, it's only a matter of time before Trump targets your own family for his political gain.”
