Under Republican Gov. Abbott Texas Economy Declines to 21st in the Nation.

Austin, TX -- It’s clear, under Republican leadership in Texas and an incoming Trump administration that our economy is shifting in the wrong direction.

With Republicans like Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in the driver’s seat, Texas’ economy has plummeted from 3 to 21. [Governing, August 22, 2016]

This week, “Jaime Rodriguez, the maverick governor of Nuevo León, is calling on residents of his state and neighboring Tamaulipas to avoid shopping in McAllen and South Padre Island, just across the border in Texas...” This development was a direct result of Donald Trump’s Carrier dog and pony show. [Fox News, December 5, 2016]

The Texas Association of Business “launched its most pointed attack Tuesday against Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's crusade to pass a transgender bathroom bill...The study from the Texas Association of Business found that proposals targeting transgender and gay Texans could cost the economy $8.5 billion a year and put at risk up to 185,000 jobs…” [San Antonio Express-News, December 6, 2016]

Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Crystal K. Perkins issued the following statement:

“Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick just don’t get it. When they choose to focus on discriminatory laws and kick the can down the road on infrastructure and education investments, it hurts everybody. It hurts workers. It hurts women. It hurts children. It hurts families.

“Our state’s economy is slipping.

“Republicans have ignored the need to build a sustainable, innovative, and diversified economy. Middle class families are seeing less and less opportunity and having a harder time making ends meet.

“Trump’s reckless campaign promises will destroy the Texas economy, but Texas Democrats can not and will not let Republicans drag Texas families down so that the rich and powerful get richer.”
